Hand-Painted Vagai Wood Ganesha 24"

This richly hand-painted Ganesha statue is carved from vagai wood, its light, fine grain lending itself beautifully to the sculptural detail and vivid colorwork of this substantial standing display piece. The four-armed figure sits in a relaxed royal pose, the upper hands holding an ankush (elephant goad) and a pasha (noose) painted in deep red and green, while the lower right hand rests in a gentle gesture and the lower left holds a modak sweet. The trunk curves gracefully to one side, and the figure is adorned with an elaborate tiered crown in gold, red, and teal, a beaded sacred thread crossing the chest, and layered necklaces and armbands picked out in warm earthy tones. Ganesha sits atop a lotus flower seat flanked by bolster cushions in green and orange, with his vahana, the small mouse, carved resting beside one foot and a cluster of painted modaks beside the other. The whole figure rests on a carved rectangular pedestal base finished with a wave pattern and a central lotus medallion. This boldly colored, large-scale piece makes a striking centerpiece for a home temple, entryway, or devotional display.
